GLADSTONE -- Approximately 25 Jones Elementary students in Gladstone are getting extra mentoring to help boost their school performance, and it's paying off in test scores and better work completion.

The after school program started in December.  Third, fourth, and fifth graders are working with eighth graders from Gladstone Middle School to improve their reading and math skills.  Fifth grader Akima Rosado says she now enjoys class assignments.

"Like, having to turn it in a lot more, and every time I turn it in, my teacher smiles a little bit, so that kind of makes me feel like he's saying, good job," said Akima.

The one hour program is held every Monday and Wednesday after school.
