ESCANABA -- The annual "Walk for Warmth" event is taking place Saturday at the senior centers in Manistique and Menominee and in Escanaba at the Elks Lodge.

In Delta County, so far about $20,000 has been raised to help people who are having trouble paying their fuel bills.

The one-mile walk in Escanaba is a way to symbolize the cold struggles others in the community face. The event will start at 10 a.m. local time in all three areas.

"It is helping our neighbors.  There are people who are struggling, working in part-time situations or having reduced hours, and the economy certainly factors into what people are able to do," said Community Action Agency Executive Director, Bill Dubord.

There will be a breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Manistique walk.  Participants will be asked to provide a free-will offering.
