MARQUETTE -- If you have a high efficiency heating system, this winter weather can cause some unexpected problems for you.

Blowing snow, like we've seen in the past two days, can cause snow to block intake and exhaust vents on the outside of your house.

It's a problem heating and plumbing experts say is common in the winter.

"The snow can build up in front of these vents, it can block either the intaking air or the exhausting air and cause problems with your furnace and your heating equipment in your home. Keep an eye on it! We get a lot of calls obviously for no heat; this happens to be one of the problems sometimes, so it's sort of an easy fix," said Rick Gilles of Swick Plumbing and Heating.

If your heating system is only working intermittently or has stopped, Gilles says this is one of the first things you should check.
