MARQUETTE -- The focus of American education is shifting to higher education according to a presentation at Northern Michigan University Monday. Former General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Education Charles Rose spoke at NMU's Reynolds Recital Hall.

He discussed trends in higher education in America. Rose says even though American higher education has faced challenges, it's still the best.

"We have a unique opportunity now that the country is shifting the education conversation to higher education to marshall our resources to preserve what we have," said Rose. "But also take what we have and ensure that it continues to remain the best system in the world."

Rose also said the nation does need to work to ensure higher education is more affordable.
