CALUMET -- The Michigan State Police in Calumet are warning residents of a phone scam in the area.

According to the police, the caller advises that they are sending out new Medicare cards, but they need the individual's checking account number to process the transaction. The police added that the caller knows the potential victim's name and possibly their banking information.

Police say that you should hang up if you receive a call like this and contact your local police department. If you have any questions you can contact the MSP post in Calumet at (906) 337-5145.
