MARQUETTE -- Many high school students and their parents got a leg up with filling out their FAFSA Sunday.

It's called "Michigan College Goal." It helps those attending college next year complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Volunteers from the Marquette YMCA, the Marquette and Alger College Access Network, and other youth development organizations were on hand. This is third year the "Y" has hosted the free event. Completing the FAFSA is an important step in receiving college grants and scholarships.

"Hopefully we can get as many people involved in this to get as many people going to college and furthering their education," said Ben Platt, Volunteer Coordinator.

The Michigan deadline for completing the FAFSA is March 1.
