MARQUETTE -- Tuesday night, some amateur chefs got a chance to learn all about chocolate, just in time for Valentine's Day. The Marquette Food Co-op holds monthly cooking classes to teach recipes and inform participants about the foods they use in cooking. Tuesday, they made chocolate ganache, truffles and glazes. Co-op members hope people learn more than just recipes, though.

"Every cooking class, the goal is not only that they go away knowing how to make something, but also that they learn something a little bit deeper, perhaps about the culture of the food that they're eating. In this case, we want people to think about what kind of chocolate that they're getting," said Sarah Monte of the Food Co-op, "to make them feel empowered about the choices they can make when they purchase their chocolate for these holidays."

Next month the Food Co-Op cooking class will focus on authentic Italian dishes. The cooking classes are $10 for Co-op owners and $20 for others. If you're interested in signing up, you can find more information by clicking here.
