MARQUETTE -- Thursday’s winter storm resulted in massive school closings, giving kids the day off across Upper Michigan.

School cancellations left parents scrambling for last minute solutions, resulting in many Marquette residents heading to the YMCA.

"Well, it was another surprise day off here in Marquette due to weather," explains Marquette resident, Tom Asmus. "Kids came to the Y and spent a couple hours burning off a little pent-up energy."

Some kids spent their time swimming while others shot hoops in the basketball courts.

Staff at the Y says bringing kids here is a good solution to a snow day and gets kids up and active on their day off.
