ISHPEMING -- Final preparations are underway for the 126th annual Ski Jumping Tournament at Ishpeming's Suicide Hill. Wednesday afternoon, a crew of eight workers loaded snow onto the scaffolding used for the jump. Snow guns at the hill have been running for the past month. The process of getting the snow onto the track involves a drag loaded with snow that is raised to the top using pulleys, cables and a back hoe. The crew has also had to contend with this year's strange weather.

"We're getting close. Once we get the track set, it's just a little bit of final grooming and the hill will be ready to ski, so we've been fortunate," said Ishpeming Ski Club President Tom Petersen. "With the weather that we've had, it's complicated things, but we've done ok and we're dealing with it."

After loading the scaffolding with snow, workers carved two ski tracks for the jumps. The Ski Jumping Tournament is set for February 6.
