MARQUETTE -- Marquette police discovered a 19-year-old woman in need of medical attention after responding to an assault in progress call early Monday morning.

Officers arrived at the apartment on Presque Isle in Marquette at around 12:10 a.m. to discover a woman in need of immediate medical care, according to police. The officers reported that the assault was actually the woman's 22-year-old boyfriend attempting to revive her after she had stopped breathing. The woman was taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment.

According to police, drug paraphernalia was spotted in plain sight while responding to the call. Officers said that they located suspected meth lab components, cleared the residence for safety, and contacted the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team.

Police received a warrant and returned to the scene, locating meth lab components in a bedroom and arrested the 22-year-old man, identified as Gregory Retaskie, Jr. According to authorities, there was a valid warrant for Retaskie's arrest involving a previous charge of operating a laboratory involving methamphetamine, which is a 20 year felony.

The Marquette County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing further charges regarding the meth components found during Retaskie's arrest.
