DELTA COUNTY -- Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash that claimed the life of a Rapid River man early Sunday morning.

According to the Michigan State Police of the Gladstone Post, 23-year-old Ryan Robert-Raymond Harper was killed on US-2 when the westbound vehicle he was driving near Nahma Township had crossed the centerline and was struck broadside by a vehicle driven eastbound by 57-year-old Ricky Dame Moulds of Escanaba.

Moulds was treated at the scene and taken to Marquette General Hospital by Rampart EMS.  Harper was pronounced dead at the scene by the Medical Examiner's Office and transported to OSF St. Francis by Tri-Star EMS.

US-2 was shut down for several hours until the crash scene was cleared.  Assisting at the scene were Garden, Nahma, and the Masonville Fire Departments along with Rampart and Tri-Star EMS, the Delta County Sheriff's Department and the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Detachment.
