ISHPEMING -- It's been almost six months since 19-year-old Daniel Olson passed away. He's the former Ishpeming quarterback whose dad, Jeff, coached the team to a state title last fall.  And now his parents are creating a scholarship in his honor.

The Daniel Olson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Ishpeming senior who resembles the same outstanding qualities that Daniel had.

For his parents, it's also a way to keep him alive and what he accomplished known.  They hope to make it a $1,000 scholarship.

"You know Daniel always wanted to help people and he wasn't afraid to.  If we can give out a scholarship where somebody might be in need, somebody might be an extremely hard worker, a great person, then we want them to benefit from this," said Coach Olson.

To kick off fundraising for the scholarship, they'll host a basketball game on February 10.

Donations can be sent to:

Anthony Bertucci, Business Office  Ishpeming High School, 119 E. Division St., Ishpeming, MI  49849.  Checks are made out to:  Daniel Olson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
