NEGAUNEE -- Four Upper Peninsula lugers are making their final preparations for a trip to Italy to compete in the world championships.

Liesel Demeuse, Derek Rogers, and Daryn and Derek Carter were selected to represent the United States in the competition. They leave on Sunday.

On Friday, they were getting in some final practice runs on Lucy Hill.

"The last two weeks we've really been training out here as much as we can, every night and, of course, the weather has been warm so it hasn't been that great either and then trying to fit in all the school work, we're trying to make up, too, missing exam week and everything," said Liesel Demeuse, Lucy Hill luger.

Local businesses and community members donated money to help make the trip possible.

The Screened Image created custom shirts and sweatshirts for the team.
