MARQUETTE -- The Second Thursday Creative Series at the U.P. Children's Museum kicked off the new year Thursday. It was all about princesses and pirates. The night featured crafts like making treasure maps and princess wands. The children also saw a performance from the Lake Superior Youth Theatre.

"I like the second Thursday because, well, we get ice cream, we get to hand it out, and every Thursday we get pizza," said UPCM explainer Rachel Hahn "I like just the people coming in; it's fun to interact with them."

The staff at the Children's Museum come up with the crafting ideas each month using low or no cost materials. The Second Thursday Creative Series continues next month with a Valentine's Day-themed night.
