Former NMU hockey player killed in snowmobile crash

HOUGHTON -- The 41-year-old Houghton man that died in a snowmobile crash on Friday night has been identified as Roger Lewis.

Police were called to a snowmobile crash in Franklin Township on private property at around 9:50 p.m. on Friday night. According to the Michigan State Police, Lewis was killed when he drove his snowmobile under a steel cable that was located on the property.

Lewis was on the Northern Michigan University hockey team from 1994 to 1997 as a forward.

The Michigan State Police are still investigating the crash, but reported that alcohol was involved.
