KALAMAZOO (AP) -- Authorities in Kalamazoo say they've discovered a sewage overflow that dumped at least 300,000 gallons of waste into a wetlands area.

Kalamazoo Environmental Services Superintendent, Mike Wetzel, tells Mlive.com (http://bit.ly/WmKE3g ) that the spill apparently dates back to Dec. 29.

He says the sewage release shouldn't do any long-term damage to the area near Averill Lake in the western Michigan community.

Authorities say rags caused the blockage and say crews removed them Friday.

In April 2011, vandalism caused the overflow of about 600,000 gallons of raw sewage in the same area.
