CALUMET -- The man accused of breaking into Harter's Party Store in Calumet and fleeing from police was sentenced to a year in jail Friday.

Washington State resident, 22-year-old Jaymez Riggins, was sentenced on two felony counts of fleeing and eluding police and unlawfully driving away a motor vehicle.

Under a plea agreement, his two counts of malicious destruction of a building and driving while intoxicated were dismissed.  His attorney requested that his client be instructed to go into substance abuse rehabilitation.

Riggins will serve one year in the Houghton County Jail with credit for 58 days already served.
