MARQUETTE -- As friends and family come together for the holidays area churches are having their Christmas services Monday and Tuesday. At Messiah Lutheran in Marquette service started at 4 p.m. Monday.

Parishioners joined in singing a number of Christmas hymns like 'O Little Town of Bethlehem', and 'Hark the Herald Angel Sings'. Father Van Kley hopes this message inspires church members.

"Just in the last couple of weeks we've had tragic shootings of people, children, and I would hope that they come away with a renewed sense of hope and trust in the way of love and grace that Jesus came to teach all of us." said Van Kley.

Two more services are scheduled for Monday at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Holy Communion is offered at all services.
