ISHPEMING -- The Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce has come up with a new way to bring some color to your white winter. It's called the "Arctic Blast Color Dash," a 5-k run through the trails of Ishpeming Hills. It will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013.
Participants start out in white clothing and get doused in a safe colored powder at stations every kilometer. The chamber is hoping to get as many as 200 participants.
"It's kind of a fun fad that's going on around the country right now, and we haven't had one in the Upper Peninsula, so we thought we'd give it a try and we thought winter would be a great," said GINCC Executive Director, Elizabeth Peterson.
The Chamber has ordered 400 pounds of the powder.
The cost for the event is $30 until the end of the year, then it goes to $35. A portion of the money raised goes to local charities.
