DEARBORN (AP) -- Hit the road: AAA Michigan says a tank of gas is costing less.

Gas prices have fallen 18 cents during the past week to a statewide average of about $3.24 per gallon. The auto club said Monday the average is about the same as last year at this time.

Of the Michigan cities surveyed, AAA Michigan said the cheapest price for self-serve unleaded fuel is in the Flint area, where it's about $3.10 a gallon. The highest average is in the Ann Arbor area at about $3.27. It's $3.24 in the Detroit area.

Dearborn-based AAA Michigan surveys 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily. The next report won't be out until Jan. 2.
