Early morning fire damages Escanaba home

ESCANABA -- Two adults and a dog were able to escape an early morning fire in Escanaba Friday.

Escanaba Public Safety officers responded to a house fire on the 1000 block of Washington Avenue in Escanaba.  It was reported by the homeowner that the couch had caught fire which extended to the rest of the room.

When firefighters arrived the fire was burning in the first floor of the house.  They battled the blaze for 30 minutes before it was under control.

Public Safety Officers were able to save the structure and prevent the fire from spreading.

The home sustained fire, smoke and water damage. Escanaba Public Safety reports that the family is staying with relatives.

There were no injuries at the scene and Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Delta County Sheriff's Department and Rampart EMS.
