NEGAUNEE -- Some local lugers are headed to Europe to compete in the World Championships and they're looking for some help from the community.

Liesel Demeuse, Derek Rogers, Daryn and Derek Carter were selected to represent the U.S. in the competition.  They'll all be traveling to Deutsch-Nofen, Italy January 13.

The athletes are asking for financial donations to help cover the cost of the trip.

"I've been coaching for four years and they have been working very hard developing their skills. For these athletes, this is their dream come true. The World Championships are only held every other year; this is a really big opportunity for them," said luge coach, Tammy Wills.

They're looking to raise $2,000 by January 12.  For information on how you can donate, click here.
