MARQUETTE -- The Republican Party of Marquette County has a new chairman, Pete Mackin.  He was elected chairman at a party meeting on Monday night.

Mackin lives in Chocolay Township and replaces Dan Adamini as the leader of the party. Mackin was meeting with the College Republicans on the NMU campus Wednesday.  He says they'll (the College Republicans) play a key role in the future of the party.

"They're the get out the vote people--they work hard, they're dedicated. Sometimes I think they put us older Republicans to shame, so I really want to work closely with the College Republicans here at Northern to make sure that we're doing them justice, keeping them busy, keeping them involved and helping grow their organization as well as ours," said Mackin.

Mackin will serve as the GOP chairman for the next two years.
