ISHPEMING -- The Ishpeming Hematites need your help to send the entire football team to New York City to attend the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year reception.
Thousands of you voted online for Eric Dompierre in the Sports Illustrated Underdogs contest. As part of the reward, SI was willing to pay airfare and hotel for ten players to attend the reception.
Eric's father, Dean Dompierre, contacted SI and asked if they would consider putting the money they would have used for airfare to be spent on a bus so the entire team could go to New York with Coach Olson. Sports Illustrated said yes.
Unfortunately, the cost of the additional hotel rooms for two nights leaves the team $3,200 short. If you would like to donate, make your check payable to Ishpeming Public Schools. Indicate what it's for in the memo portion of the check.
Checks can be sent to Ishpeming Public Schools, 319 East Division Street, Ishpeming 49849. Checks can also be dropped off at the superintendent's office.
The team leaves for New York Monday, December 3.
