GLADSTONE -- Many woke up extra early Thursday morning for the 15th Annual  5-k Gladstone Turkey Trot.

Officials say it keeps growing every year.  Last year 180 people participated, but this year more than 200 people took part.  The run supports the local Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul Society.

All participants had to do was bring canned goods or a monetary donation.

"It's turned into people returning home for Thanksgiving and this has become a tradition for them as a family that they come down not just are one to two individuals but we see groups of families," said Race Director, Dan Paul.

"Delta county is an incredibly caring and understanding community they really are concerned about their friends and neighbors they look for ways to reach out and help those people," said Ralph Hansen of the Salvation Army.

"It seems like the people that are willing to help are willing to go the extra mile to help," said Volunteer, Mike Klimkowski.

The first runner to cross the line finished in about 15 minutes.  After the trot runners enjoyed cookies and refreshments.
