LANSING -- Tuesday marked the 10th annual Adoption Day across the state of Michigan.  Hundreds of children were united with families at courthouses statewide.

In Lansing, Tom and Marie Carter of Gwinn, had their adoption of a four-year-old boy finalized.  Marquette County Probate Judge Michael Anderegg worked on the case and made the trip to Lansing to see it finalized.

"It brought tears to my eyes this morning when the adopting mother said to me, 'His middle name is going to be Michael after you,'" said Judge Anderegg.

Judge Anderegg was also given a special honor Tuesday at the Michigan Supreme Court--the "Angel in Adoption" award--a tribute to having worked diligently on many cases of finalized adoption over his 36 year career on the bench in the U.P.
