Saturday, Wisconsin's firearm deer season begins, and many residents are getting everything prepared for what's hopefully a safe and successful hunt.

The Wisconsin DNR says since their hunter education program was implemented, the woods are a lot safer. Last year, they had no fatalities or injuries throughout the season, and they hope it stays that way.

"The acronym that we recommend to people is TABK, so treat every firearm as if it is loaded. Always face your gun in a safe direction. Be sure of your target and what lies beyond and keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire," said Anna Jahns, wildlife technician for WDNR.

At the DNR office in Florence, many hunters were getting their hunting permits for Saturday. By early afternoon on Friday, close to 300 people were already done filling out the necessary paperwork.
