KINGSFORD -- Monday was the day the Salvation Army kicked off its kettle campaign in Kingsford.

The kickoff brings awareness to residents that bell ringers are out and ready to receive donations. Bell ringers are set up in various supermarkets throughout Iron Mountain, Kingsford and Norway until December 24.

Salvation Army volunteers say they know there are residents in need, and they're happy to help.

"It makes me feel good because I grew up here, and I understand the need for everything that's going on in the town.  I understand the need for food especially because a lot of poverty is going on in this town," said Kettle Kickoff Coordinator, Chris Rockafellow.

Many food baskets were given out last year through the Salvation Army's fundraising efforts.

Anyone that would like to volunteer as a bell ringer, contact Chris Rockafellow at (906) 396-1720.
