HOUGHTON -- The man accused of breaking into Harter’s Party store in Calumet Tuesday night is now facing several charges.

Twenty-two-year-old Jaymez Riggings from the state of Washington was arraigned in Houghton County District Court Friday and charged with fleeing and eluding, malicious destruction of personal property, and driving while intoxicated.

On Tuesday night, the Calumet Village Police were investigating a complaint of an attempted break-in.

As authorities were working the crime scene, a call came in from a concerned citizen of a silver minivan, driving erratically in the North Tamarack Road area of Calumet Township.

“Count one is malicious destruction of a building less than $200, the allegation being that you destroyed property. You're charged with attempted larceny by trying to steal a vehicle,” said Judge Mark Wisti.

Riggings will be back in court for a preliminary examination November 16.
