Democrat challenger Gary McDowell's campaign has conceded the race for Michigan's First Congressional District to incumbent Republican Dan Benishek.

McDowell's campaign had not conceded the election until just before 6 p.m. Friday because of how close the race was.  According to the Associated Press, Benishek's margin of victory was 2,297 votes...less than one percent of the more than 346,000 votes cast.

Ballots are still being canvassed to verify results, but McDowell campaign representatives say they don't expect the outcome to change.
