NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP -- The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter is starting a new event called Nine for Nine which is a nationwide event where you can get any cat nine months old and up for just nine dollars.

UPAWS recently won $500 from the Best Friends Animal Society that helps them offset the reduced adoption costs.

"It's nine lives for nine dollars, and it's a great fun, new promotion and we're very excited about it," said Anne Brownell of UPAWS. "We're very excited to find homes for as many kitty cats as we can."

The nine dollar adoption fee includes spay or neutering, all shots, as well as a full-size bag of Dr. Tim's Pet Food. The Nine for Nine event is for all cats nine months and older at UPAWS, as well as their new adoption center at PetSmart.
