A 22-year-old man from the state of Washington is in custody after the incident Tuesday night

CALUMET -- A suspect is in custody for allegedly breaking to a Houghton County business Tuesday night.

At approximately 11:15 p.m., deputies with the Houghton County Sheriff's Department were called out to Harter's Party Store in Calumet to assist the Calumet Police. They were investigating a complaint of an attempted break-in.

As authorities were working the crime scene, a call came in from a concerned citizen of a silver minivan, driving erratically in the N. Tamarack Road area of Calumet Township.

Deputies found the suspected vehicle and tried to pull the driver over. At that time, it was determined the vehicle had been taken from a nearby business.

After a short chase, authorities took a 22-year-old male into custody. He was arrested for fleeing and eluding, unlawfully driving away a vehicle, and operating while intoxicated. His name is being withheld pending arraignment.
