MARQUETTE -- A high voter turnout is being projected for Tuesday in the City of Marquette. Marquette City Clerk Dave Bleau expects 65 to 70 percent of the city's registered voters to cast a ballot. Some of those ballots have already been turned in through the absentee process.
In 2008, nearly 64 percent of city voters participated in the election. The three polling locations and the clerk's office will be staffed with extra help throughout the day Tuesday.
"It's constant all day long for a presidential, so people need more breaks, and it's a very fast-paced day- and you need more people on staff to help out with everything that's going on," said Bleau.
The Michigan Secretary of State's office has declined to provide a statewide estimate of voter turnout. Clerks in the largest counties downstate say, however, they expect turnout to be slightly less than it was four years ago.
Those voting Tuesday are reminded to bring along a photo ID.
