MARQUETTE -- The Peter White Public Library in Marquette has completed an addition to its reading ring that makes it more accessible. The reading ring is a place outside the library where visitors can gather, talk and read. The location of the ring didn't allow for those with disabilities to access the ring. The NMU Construction students made the reading ring more inclusive.

"The wonderful thing about this project is that it was a volunteer effort on the part of other people in the community," said David Boyd of the Marquette Access Group. "Also that it wasn't a have-to-do kind of project; it was because it was the right thing to do, and that's really what makes it so important."

The cost of materials came to about $1,000. Library fundraising efforts easily came up with that amount. The labor was free, being provided by Northern Michigan University students.
