MARQUETTE -- The fate of a proposed bridge to Canada is in the hands of voters. Proposal 6 seeks to amend the state's constitution regarding construction of international bridges and tunnels.

If passed, the proposal would require a majority of voters in a statewide election approve a new international bridge or tunnel for motor vehicles.

This also requires the majority of voters of each municipality where the structure would be located.

Those voting yes say these bridges and tunnels would be a high cost for taxpayers, and, therefore, need the approval of the electorate.

Those opposed say a second international bridge would help boost economic development by increasing movement of goods between Michigan and Canada.
