MARQUETTE -- One Marquette native was inducted into the A. Felch Pendill Wall of Excellence at Marquette Senior High School. Carl "Buck" Nystrom is the sixth honoree to be inducted to the wall.

Nystrom graduated from Graveraet High School in 1951. He participated in different sports throughout high school. His favorite was football, and he went on to play on Michigan State's team and became captain in 1955.

Afterwards, he went on to coach college football for more than 25 years.

"When I went into college, I wanted to be a teacher and a coach. As a result, it was not hard for me to select this profession, and I think when you look at it, it's the idea of being able to communicate and work with kids, get them better, and all those good things," said Nystrom.

He also says he never dreamed of receiving the award, but is honored.

Nystrom and his wife, Joan, currently raise funds for the U.P. Special Olympics.
