ISHPEMING -- Two churches began collecting clothes Saturday for Project Keep Kids Warm.
Volunteers came to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee and Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming for the pickup. They drove through the community looking for bags of clothing left outside.
This is the third annual Project Keep Kids Warm.
In the past, the project has collected several thousand pieces of clothing.
"In every year, in every event where there's a need for community outreach and service to the needy people of our community, Ishpeming and Negaunee residents respond, and that's a wonderful thing," said Richard Derby, chairman of the project.
The clothes will be transferred to the National Guard Armory in Ishpeming later this week for the free distribution on Saturday.
Donations of new or slightly used clothes can still made at each church, Saint Vincent de Paul, or the Salvation Army.
