MARQUETTE -- Over 100 people swarmed parts of Marquette Wednesday in the hopes of winning a free smart phone. Verizon Wireless held a small scavenger hunt at four Marquette locations to promote their 4G service that begins Thursday.
Twenty-five pins were available at each of the four spots, and they were all gone in a matter of minutes.
Ten of the people who participated will win a free Motorola Droid Razr HD, the newest of the the droid series that goes on sale Thursday.
Verizon's Marquette 4G LTE service will be the 400th 4G market in the country.
"We're excited to be here in Marquette. I think the fact that people are showing up and the pins are going within five minutes shows the amount of excitement that Marquette has for Verizon Wireless and the technology we're bringing here," said Verizon Marketing Manager, Jerome Cheatham.
The 10 winners of the new smartphones will be chosen at Verizon's 4G celebration, Thursday at noon in front of their store near the Westwood Mall.
