GLADSTONE -- Back in August, the Gladstone and Rapid River School Districts voted to enter into an agreement to share one superintendent after the part-time Rapid River School superintendent retired.
Gladstone School Superintendent Jay Kulbertis says the logistics of traveling to both districts are a challenge. He's currently getting up to speed with the Rapid River district, but there are benefits of the added responsibility.
Kulbertis is able to get more of an audience with the governor's office to talk about key educational issues.
"Really, what we're looking for is more localized control. Too often, because we're rural, we're painted with the same brush as suburban Michigan, which couldn't be further from the truth," said Kulbertis.
Kulbertis has a council made up of two board members from each district who meet monthly to know what's going on in the other district.
