IRON MOUNTAIN -- U.S. Senate hopeful Pete Hoekstra campaigned in Iron Mountain this Sunday. He met with Dickinson County Health Systems executives to talk about health care issues and tour the hospital.

Hoekstra says health care in rural communities is in jeopardy. Hoekstra says he wanted to get an up-close look at what's going on by meeting with hospital executives.

Hoekstra says the existence of rural hospitals are threatened under Obamacare and says people should be able to get health care in their communities without having to travel long distances.

"With a lower reimbursement rates that they're getting from the federal government under Medicare, Medicaid, and in the future under Obamacare, all of that is very much threatened. This could go away," said Hoesktra.

He's headed to Chicago for a meet and greet.
