NEGAUNEE -- Some talented artists at Lakeview School in Negaunee got a special ride to school on Wednesday morning on a fire truck.

Over 700 kindergarten through fifth grade students at the school created posters in art class for fire prevention week, and the Negaunee City and Township Fire Departments selected first place winners from each grade.

Those six lucky winners got picked up at home by fire trucks and were driven to school by the firefighters.

"I drew a house that was burning down and the guy got out safely," said fourth grade winner Andrew Feys.

"It's important because if you ever do get caught in a fire and you don't know this stuff, how are you gonna get out? It's gonna be a problem," said fifth grade winner Madison Downey.

The contest and prize are long standing traditions for the school and fire departments. This year's drawings centered around the theme "have two ways out."
