ISHPEMING -- Those of you who live in the Ishpeming and Negaunee area may notice something extra on your doorstep this weekend.

As part of the third annual Keep Kids Warm winter clothing drive, volunteers will be dropping off empty Shopko bags from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. this Saturday. They're hoping the community will fill them with winter clothing for children, newborn to age 18. This year, volunteers from Wesley United Church in Ishpeming have teamed up with Emanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee for the project.

Community members will have until Saturday, Oct. 20 to get them filled. Area youth will begin pickup at 10 a.m.

"There's a definite need in our community," said organizer Bill Schrandt. "There are a lot of underprivileged children. You don't see them every day, but there's a lot of children that don't have warm clothes, don't have enough food to get through the winter. It's tough for a lot of people."

Distribution of the donations will take place at the Ishpeming Armory on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. If you need transportation to the Ishpeming Armory, please call (906) 486-4681.
