MARQUETTE -- Superior Hills Elementary students learned some very important lessons on Tuesday in honor of Fire Prevention Week.
The Marquette City Fire Department is traveling to elementary schools throughout the city to educate kids about the importance of fire safety. They placed the students in a smokehouse and explained what to do if they're ever in a similar situation.
The firefighters put the biggest emphasis on staying low if there is a fire, knowing your two exits, and stop drop and roll.
"Basically we start out from the pre-school and educate all the way to high school," said firefighter Brett Beaudry. "We'll start out with station tours really small with the kids. Then, we'll work our way into the elementary schools. Then by the time we get to high school, we're doing fire extinguisher demonstrations."
The firefighters are making their way to Sandy Knoll Elementary school on Friday.
