HOUGHTON -- The Consul General at India's consulate in Chicago is working to build academic relationships with the United States.

Mukta Tomar was the guest speaker at Michigan Technological University.

During her presentation she talked about India being a land of opportunity as well as India being a place of technological development. Tomar also says India has a strong academic community and many graduates live in the United States.

"People who have come here have been able to build upon a relationship with India and what we would like to do is see how we can build these partnerships in research and technology and education and business," said Tomar.

Tomar says Indian businesses have contributed to educational institutions in the US and Indian faculty have also helped build a stronger relationship between American and Indian universities.
