ESCANABA -- Dozens of walkers and runners took to the streets of Escanaba Saturday to help those with mental disabilities.

Lakestate Industries, an employment training facility for the disabled, hosted its annual "Breaking The Barriers Run it, Walk it, Wheel it."  The 5K event's aim was to raise money and awareness for those with mental disabilities.

Organizers say their event is an opportunity to bring people in the community together.

"You know it brings, also, the runners in our area together to help us demonstrate, getting together and regrouping basically as a community for a good cause," said event organizer, Tanya Lund.

Nearly 40 people participated in the event.
