HARVEY -- The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter held one of their last wish list collection events this Saturday.

Volunteers stood outside of Jack's IGA in Harvey, collecting donations from community members. Cat litter and dog food are just some of the essentials to care for the animals, especially during the cold winter months.

"Anything that you need to take care of an animal, we need at the shelter, and we need lots of it because we're taking care of lots of animals," said UPAWS Manager Lareina VanStrien. "So these wish list drives just help supplement the cost that it takes to support those animals, and it helps the animals during their stay, and it also gives people an easy chance to support us."

UPAWS will hold a community-wide fundraiser on Oct. 25. Times and locations will be announced later this month.
