ESCANABA -- The City of Escanaba discussed the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act on Thursday during a city council meeting.
According to the Escanaba Daily Press, the city is expressing some concerns regarding local issues with the act, and is looking at a resolution to address this.
The Medical Marijuana Act allows patients who meet qualifications to grow up to 12 plants at a time. The rules also allow a caregiver to have five patients and grow 12 plants for each.
According to the Daily Press, local law enforcement expressed concerns over the vagueness of the law and the fact that law enforcement does not have access to the names of people allowed to grow marijuana. The state does not provide these names because of confidentiality and medical privacy guidelines.
The article went on to say that Mayor Pro Tem Brady Nelson encouraged residents to contact their state representatives to allow local control over marijuana growing and allow law enforcement departments access to a list of who can locally grow the plants.

What are your thoughts on local authorities getting a list of medical marijuana growers? Should this be covered under medical privacy, or is this something the community needs to address drug problems?
