ESCANABA -- The Delta Animal Shelter will be hosting a special blessing of the pets this Sunday at 4 p.m., and they'll have an open house with tours of the shelter from 3 to 5 p.m.

In the past year, the shelter has adopted out close to 900 animals and returned 250 back to owners. They haven't had to euthanize any animals either.

Right now the shelter is at a maximum population for cats and almost at near capacity for dogs. During Sunday's festivities, they'll be running half-off adoption specials. The shelter manager says anyone with a pet or looking for a pet to adopt at the shelter can stop by for the blessing.

"Dog, cat, bird, rabbit, whatever animal they had at home, feel welcome to bring them down for a special blessing," said shelter manager Susan Gartland. "We understand that pets are a special part of the family, and we'd like to facilitate that blessing."

Two-year-old Patches is one of the dogs who'll be blessed, and he's looking for a forever home.
