MARQUETTE -- Those who are trying to get their small business off the ground got some helpful tips Thursday at the Peter White Public Library. UP With Local is a members-owned organization that works to help locally owned businesses survive and thrive.

Thursday, they held a micro-business booster seminar. They talked about the foundations of planning, accounting and marketing.

"Marquette is very unique in that it's actually a very small community that has a lot more going on than most communities its size," said Dan Rutz, President of UP With Local. "So you really have to design small businesses carefully to make sure that they're able to thrive well, based on the demographics we actually have here."

The business booster seminars are held quarterly. UP With Local is also working on rebranding themselves. They plan to unveil some new changes in January.
