MARQUETTE -- Students at Northern Michigan University looking for a change of pace might want to consider some time abroad.
NMU has been working to encourage more students to take classes overseas with informational coffee chats. Students can pick up information and talk to other students who have been abroad.
Officials say there are different programs and scholarships available for students interested.
"I would definitely recommend it, definitely look into scholarships. I personally won several. It was kind of a test for myself; I made friends with locals, made my way around the city, learned the buses...that really helped a lot," said NMU senior Mike Moran.
Organizers from NMU's education abroad and exchange program say that students become more well rounded. Students also get a chance to sample the host country's culture as well.
NMU currently has about 30 students studying around the world.
